From Em’s Mom…
I’m the mother of #17strong Emily “Em” Wood from the Palmerston Marlins ‘08 team.
2024 was a rough year for us losing Em.
So many have been inspired by her storm she battled with cancer last year. I always knew she was destined to do great things but when she was diagnosed with cancer we were devasted that those great things couldn’t happen without her. I’ve gone in to survival mode of the past year and am continuing with her dad’s own battle with cancer. I could drown myself in anger but I feel compelled to attempt the great things in memory of her.
Friends are changing their lives because of her. They’re making donations in honour of her.
I’m asking for everyone’s help with this. If you’ve made a donation for a cause in memory of her I want you to share it with a tag #17strong. Every time I want you to share it. I don’t want specifics of dollar value just a share and tag.
Now as for the softball community I’m asking for something from all of you as well. Please consider donating $10 a player to Ronald McDonald House in London in memory of #17strong. I’d love to make this an annual fundraiser as well. This fall we will be running the 2nd Em Wood Tribute day ball tournament, kids zone and a minion walk parade the night before. Proceeds will be donated to Childcan, Hayden’s Hope Foundation and Joyful Wings Foundation.
I plan to make my baby known around the world.
