Our coaches have received accreditation from Softball Ontario for Learn to Coach and Community Softball Coach qualifications. Some of our more experienced head coaches have Level 1 and Level 2 accreditation. Our Marlins organization supports the development of new coaches, specifically female coaches and senior players who are taking on assistant coaching roles. In addition, many of our coaches have additional NCCP (coach.ca) training in mental health, inclusion, ethical coaching standards, nutrition and concussion safety.
Tryouts usually take place in the beginning of September, just after the seasons have ended. Players compete in a wide variety of skills and assessments are completed for each player. Final decision of the 12-13 player select roster may be made soon after or closer to Spring depending on the interest level, number of players and number of teams planned for each age group that season.
